Fleming Public School is a part of the #10-ranked Glenforest family of schools (despite being in the neighbourhood of Applewood). Unfortunately for parents currently residing in this boundary, or ones who are planning to move to this boundary, the news isn't good – Brian W. Fleming came #71 out of 72 schools in Mississauga. The good news is that Brian W. Fleming has shown some improvement over the past 5 years. In fact, scores have risen 17.6%. However, that tells you how far behind the school started as they still have a ways to go to climb the charts.

Britannia Public School is located in the neighbourhood of East Credit in Northcentral Mississauga, south of highway 401 and just north of the Heartland Town Centre. Britannia Public School is a part of the #9-ranked Streetsville family of schools (despite being in the neighbourhood of East Credit). Although the overall school zone is just below average in Mississauga, Britannia Public School (along with #2 Vista Heights) faired very well individually – coming in at #15 in our overall rankings. In fact, over the past 5 years, Britannia's EQAO scores have risen by 8.7% – a very good and consistent rise in the rankings.

For families waiting on homes in John Fraser but are having a hard time meeting both the time constraints (often less availability in our #2 overall school zone) and budget, East Credit is an excellent option. It puts you in a very solid school zone at the elementary level and boasts great access to one of Mississauga's best community centres and shopping districts. For the professional family, it's also just down the road from one of Mississauga's two major work hubs. Overall, East Credit and Britannia Public School are a fantastic option for the maturing family.

Barondale Public School is located in the neighbourhood of Hurontario in Northeast Mississauga, just south of both highways 403 and 401 and only a few minutes North west of the City Centre. Barondale Public School is a part of the #10-ranked Applewood Heights family of schools. Despite the low ranking of the overall family of schools, Barondale Public School (along with Huntington Ridge) faired very well individually – coming in at #27 in our overall rankings. In fact, over the past 5 years, Barondale's EQAO scores have risen by 8.5% – a very good and consistent rise in the rankings.

For families waiting on homes in John Fraser but are having a hard time meeting both the time constraints (often less availability in our #2 overall school zone) and budget, Hurontario is an excellent option. It puts you in a very solid school zone at both the elementary and middle school level (although you may want to consider another option for high school) and also gives you great access to transportation and amenities with both major highways and Mississauga's City Centre just minutes away.

Ellengale Public School continues its march to the top of the Mississauga school rankings. A few years ago, Ellengale was ranked near the middle of the pack in Mississauga, but has since put together the largest and most significant 5-year increase in the city. Ellengale is a smaller K-6 school with approximately 300 students. Ellengale has had full-day kindergarten since it initially began in 2010-2011. Along with #10 Hawthorn, Erindale is being well represented now and hopefully into the future.

School: Hazel McCallion Senior Public School

Hazel McCallion Senior Public School, of course named after Mississauga's long-running mayor, fell out of the top 5 overall but showed the 3rd highest 5-year increase out of all middle schools in Mississauga. Located in old-fashioned yet trendy Streetsville, Hazel McCallion Sr. is another of our full-time French Immersion schools where we have seen tremendous increases in academic scores. One thing we really like about Hazel McCallion is the committment and effort exemplified through the use of their website. Most schools copy and paste from the Peel Board, but Hazel McCallion has used the space to show how things are done at their school and gets the parents prepared for their child's experience at the school. School: Stephen Lewis Secondary School

Sometimes, test scores don't tell the complete story. Such is the case for Stephen Lewis Secondary School. Opened in 2006, Stephen Lewis S.S. continues to improve each and every year with their 2010-2011 rating jumping up to 7.5/10. Often times, new schools take time to settle in terms of the administration, the culture, and academic ratings. Stephen Lewis has only been open for about 6 years and has shown signs that they'll be competing with the Top 5 for many years to come. Located in upstart Churcill Meadows, this is a neighbourhood and school that the iMississauga Real Estate team would tell anyone to strongly consider calling home.

Burnhamthorpe P.S. is Applewood's strongest elementary school, coming in at #18 in our latest rankings. Burnhamthorpe has greatly outperformed the other elementary schools in its neighbourhood – a fact not lost on parents who constantly seek to enroll their children here. Over half the students at Burnhamthorpe are enrolled in the French Immersion program (a trend of success we certainly see in many top-ranked schools). For parents with younger children, Burnhampthorpe will begin offering full-day kindergarten in 2014-2015.

School: Tomken Road Middle School

How exactly can the #1 middle school in Mississauga be on the rise? It's simple. Tomken Road Middle School continues to improve year after year. Tomken Road Middle's feeder schools include Burnhampthorpe Public School. The goal here for parents? If you love the neighbourhood of Applewood, make sure to find a home in the district of Burnhampthorpe then have you children attend the #1-middle school in Mississauga. With hard work and guidance, they'll hopefully be well on their way to great academic success. Tomken Road Middle is another on our list that offers French Immersion.

Cawthra Park is Mississauga's Music & Arts school. Over 75% of the students at Cawthra Park are enrolled in this program. Students from all over Peel apply for and audition to gain admission into the program. This often leaves the city's best and brightest standing. Cawthra Park rose to #4 on our latest rankings and we'll be very interested to see how they "perform" in the coming years.

Credit Valley Public School just narrowly missed out on cracking this year's Top 10 Public Elementary Schools in Mississauga. However, with continuing success, Credit Valley's inclusion on next year's list would be no surprise. Located in one of Mississauga's most popular neighbourhoods – Central Erin Mills – Credit Valley is increasingly becoming a desirable school and community for those within and outside of Mississauga. Credit Valley offers French Immersion and next year will be offering full-time kindergarten. This is school to keep an eye on in the burgeoning John Fraser school boundary.

And, very much like Credit Valley, Erin Centre's inclusion on next year's list would be no surprise. Located in one of Mississauga's most youngest neighbourhoods – Churchill Meadows – Erin Centre is definitely becoming a hotspot for activity as young families look to get into one of Mississauga's most promising young neighbourhoods. Erin Centre Middle School also offers French Immersion.

It's often difficult to call the #2-ranked school one that is "on the rise", but Lorne Park Secondary School continues its chase of John Fraser Secondary School for the crown of best school in Mississauga. Home to one of Mississauga's five Regional Enhanced Programs (Gifted), Lorne Park is also one of the few secondary schools that offers an Extended French option. Located in Mississauga's top school zone, and home to some of Mississauga's most stunning homes, Lorne Park is certainly an ideal place to call home – if the budget fits.

Gordon Graydon Secondary School is Mississauga's International Business and Technology school. In fact, the majority of students are enrolled in the program. Busing is provided by a non-profit organization in order to help ease the burden on students from well outside the school boundary. The IBT program is also offered at Gordon Graydon's feeder middle school, Allan A. Martin Sr., in order to help prepare students for the intense high school program. Gordon Graydon is also home to North America's only Flexography program – a program that focuses on the increasingly in demand design and product packaging sector. 

Gordon Graydon Secondary School is located in the neighbourhood of Lakeview in the south end of Mississauga. Lakeview is located along the lake and is comprised mostly of 30-60 year-old homes. There are very few new homes (unless you have them custom built), but fixer uppers and renovated and rejuvenated homes are aplenty in Lakeview. Take Lakeshore down to Toronto or west towards Mississauga's Port Credit for great scenery, restaurants and shops.

Fairwind Senior Public School is perhaps one of the most surprising top-ranked schools in Mississauga. Its feeder schools and the high school it feeds into are located in the often criticized Hurontario neighbourhood. So, perhaps the other schools should take note of what Fairwind Senior has done/is doing because their past 4-5 years have been extremely solid.

Fairwind Senior Public School is located in the centrally and conveniently located neighbourhood of Hurontario. Home to one of Mississauga's major business districts as well as public transportation hubs, Hurontario is perhaps the most convenient neighbourhood in Mississauga for work and easy access to travel. There are a plethora of restaurant and shopping options as well as apartments, condos, and affordable homes.
