In a perfect world, every school in our city would be run efficiently and effectively and would draw residents to its neighbourhood in droves. However, for 5 unfortunate Mississauga elementary schools, that isn't the case. Below is the break down of the 5 schools that are clsoing and where the students will be redirected:
| School | Closing Date | Community | Redirected To |
| Pheasant Run | June 2013 | Erin Mills | Sawmill Valley |
| Ashgrove | June 2014 | Erin Mills | Garthwood P.S. |
| King's Masting | June 2014 | Erin Mills | Brookmede |
| Elmcrest | June 2015 | Clarkson | Hillside K-8* |
| Willow Glen | June 2015 | Clarkson | Hillside K-8* |
*Hillside Senior Public School will house students from both Elmcrest and Willow Glen by transforming into a K-8 elementary school.
For any parents who are reading this and have children who are attending these schools, the Peel Board will be making building and site improvements to the consolidated schools, with the funding coming from the proceeds of the sale of the 5 school closings. The school closings were voted on back in January, and were unanimously agreed upon. The Peel Board cited "declining enrollment" in the areas these schools served as the main reason for the closings.
There was an estimated gap of 1000 students, which could have increased to 1300, leaving about 40-50 classrooms empty. The Peel Board felt this was unsustainable and with the schools having suffered from poor results over the past few years and with the increase in focus on childhood education, these schools never seemed to recover. Hopefully the Peel Board uses the funding effectively to make the consolidated schools a stronger, more challenging, and more effective educational environment for our children.
